Edinburgh International Film Festival
The Edinburgh International Film Festival is the world oldest continually running film festival, taking part every year without fail since 1947. The festival screens both UK and International films, including premieres.
The first Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) was setup by the Edinburgh Film Guild in 1947 when the Venice and Cannes festivals ruled the scene. Originally screening documentaries, the festival grew to include fiction and experimental works. Nowadays almost any genre of film, documentary, animation or music video can be found being shown as part of the event.
There are several awards given during the festival, including ‘The Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature Film’ and the ‘Skillset New Directors Award’.
The 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival ran 17th - 28th June.
