Edinburgh Festival History
What has become known the world over as 'The Edinburgh Festival' is in fact a series of several individual festivals which take place every summer in the city.
- The began in 1947 and includes classical music and international theatre productions.
- The is an arts festival but is mostly known for it's comedy, and in 2008 a sub-festival titled 'The ' was born, in it's first year already the biggest comedy festival in the world !
- Adding to the mix are the , the , , , and the (although this is held in April each year).
The popularity of these events is clear - the population of Edinburgh swells to twice it's normal size during the months of the festival !
(July - September).
